LIFE CLIMAWIN participated in the 46th edition of the World Congress of Vine and Wine, organised by the OIV in the city of Chisinau, Moldova. The event was held from 16 to 20 June, hosting in the Moldavian capital the world’s leading specialists and experts: winegrowers, winemakers, scientists, economists, experts in law, health and safety or any other field related to wine production.

During the week-long Congress, presentations were made and scientific posters were presented on oenology, viticulture, economics and law, and health and safety. There were also a number of side events to discover the wines of the Republic of Moldavia and the Balkan countries. We were able to discover indigenous grapes such as feteasca neagra, feteasca regala, rara neagra, viorica, feteasca alba, etc. And to taste wines that have nothing to envy to those we are used to in Western Europe.

We also had the opportunity to visit the Moldavian wineries Chateau Vartely, with its vineyards and beautiful wine tourism complex, and Cricova, with its impressive underground tunnels.

Regarding the scientific activity that we have developed in the Congress, apart from listening to interesting presentations and making contacts, the LIFE CLIMAWIN project team has made three presentations on the project: two presented by Nieves García Casarejos, and carried out jointly with Maricela Apolo and Pilar Gargallo, from the University of Zaragoza, leader of work package 5 on Sustainability, replication and exploitation of the project results; and another by Cristina Escriche Martínez, from Intergia, leader of work package 4 on the Implementation of intelligent energy management in the winery and vineyard.

The titles of the oral presentations were as follows:

  • LIFE CLIMAWIN: Impacts and opportunities in the transition to sustainable viticulture.
  • Socio-economic impacts of the LIFE CLIMAWIN project from the employees’ point of view.
  • Smart microgrid: how to reduce costs and CO2 emissions in wineries and vineyards.

For its implementation, LIFE CLIMAWIN has a consortium led by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), which will work for 42 months together with the University of Zaragoza, the company Intergia Energía Sostenible SL, the Bodega Bosque de Matasnos and the Plataforma Tecnológica del Vino.

This initiative, 101113948 – LIFE22-CCM-ES-CLIMAWIN, which runs from July 2023 to December 2026, has a budget of 994,195.02€ and has received funding of 596,516.82€ from the European Union’s LIFE Programme.
